Disease
Prevention and Education Services
The goal of the Prevention
Services Program is to increase the use of safer sex practices
which reduces the risk of HIV/HCV exposure. This goal is
accomplished by facilitating small group discussions, education
and interactive workshops. The sessions focus on factors
that influence high-risk behavior, what we can do to protect
ourselves, the barriers to practicing safer sex, and ways
in which we can overcome the barriers. The services provided
also encourage an environment in which participants act
as a support to each other in the group as well as outside
the group. Research has shown that people will maintain
positive behavior change when a peer support system is in
place to support the change.
HIV Couseling,
Testing and Referral (CTR)
CTR is a collection of activities
designed to increase a person's knowledge of their HIV status;
encourage and support risk reduction; and secure needed
referrals for appropriate services (medical, social, prevention,
and partner services).
